Nurse Aides
今回の記事ではNurse Aides（日本でいうと准看護師のような役割）について説明したいと思います。アメリカでは新人看護師（new grad)が大きな病院で採用されるのはかなり難しいとよく言われています。日本とは違って新卒者よりも経験者(seasoned nurse/experienced nurse)が採用されやすいアメリカ。特にハワイは本土（mainland)出身の看護師さん達が退職してそのあとハワイで住みたいと引っ越して来る場合も多いようです。そのためますます新卒者の就職状況は悪いようです。
In this article, I want to explain about "nurse aides". It is often said that new grad nurses are difficult to be hired in the US especially at big hospitals. I also heard that experienced nurses who want to retire in Hawaii move here, and it makes much harder for new grad nurses to get a position here.
そこでよくNurse Aide(Certified Nursing Assistant; CNA)として病院で働きながら、看護学校に通い、そこからいざRN(Registered Nurse)の免許を取得後、ポジションを狙うという方が多数のようです。もしくはnursing home(日本でいうと老人ホーム）などで経験を積みながら大きな病院を目指す方もいらっしゃるようです。最近日本人の方でnursing homeで数年勤務したのちに、中規模病院のERで採用され働いているという方に出会いました。
Then, what do they do?
I see a lot of students get their CNA license first and go to school and work as CNA at the same time. To do so, they already have a " connection " there. I also heard that some people start working at a nursing home and after a couple of years they try to get a position at hospitals. I recently met a Japanese nurse who worked in a nursing home and now works at ER.
このNurse Aideや他のLPNもしくはLVN（Licensed Practical nurse, Licensed Vocational nurse)の業務範囲もよくNCLEX−RN（アメリカ正看護師国家試験）で出題されます。大まかな業務内容としては １）バイタルサインの計測 ２）体重、身長測定 ３）シャワー、トイレ、衣服装着などの補助 をRNもしくはLPN(LVN)の指示のもと行うとなっています。ボランティアをしていたER(emergency room)でも状態が比較的安定している患者さんに対してはCNA（NurseAide）の方がバイタルサインをとりそれをRNに報告している場面をよく見かけました。
You will see questions about duties for nurse aides, LPN or LVN in NCLEX-RN and delegation. Nurse aides' duties are 1)Taking vital signs 2)measurement of heights and weights 3) assistant for bathing or putting clothing on, and they do those duties under RN or LPN/LVN supervision.
I often saw that CNA takes vital signs for stable patients and report to RN at ER where I volunteered.
CNA資格取得条件としては１）高校卒業証明 ２）75時間のクラスルームでの勉強と100時間の実習 を経てる必要があるようです。（州によって多少違いがあります。）そしてその後、筆記試験と実技試験がありその後CNAとして働けるようです。
To get a CNA license, you need a high school diploma and 75 hours of classroom learning and 100 hours of clinical training. (It may differ in states.) After completing that, you will have a paper and a practical test.
すでに米国での労働権をお持ちで、自己学習でNCLEX-RNに臨もうとしている方はCNAの免許を取得し実際に病院内で働きながら勉強するといいのではないかと思います。（働きながら勉強するってかなり大変ですが、、、）
If you have a visa which allows you to work in the US, I recommend taking CNA license while you are studying for NCLEX by yourself. ( I know it's pretty hard to study and work at the same time…) By doing so, you'll have a better idea of what they asked on the NCLEX.
