Bored and Brilliant

Bored and Brilliant

I went to Molokai island, Hawai'i for overnight. I sometimes forgot that there are no traffic lights

in this island, and even there are two or three big roads. I started reading a book called 'bored and brilliant', so I tried to be just relaxed and read a little.

I left Oahu at 2 pm. The flight took about just 30 minutes. Molokai island is located between Oahu and Maui. We rented a car and checked in Hotel Molokai.

まずはKalaupapa look outへ。

After that, we went to  Kalaupapa lookout where we can look down the town named Kalaupapa. This place was used to isolate people with Hansen disease.  It seems like we need to use a tour which has a permit to visit this place in order to protect the history and people who still live there. Those tours cost about $200, so we decided to just look from the lookout.

We went back to the center of the island and headed to the 3-mile-long beach. This place reminded me of Tottori dessert somehow. We watched the sunset there. Unfortunately,  many of the restaurants were closed because the day we arrived was Labor day, so we had dinner at the hotel. This restaurant was located right by the ocean, and also foods were so good. I recommend having a salad with papaya dressing. (yummmmy)

I wanted to try Molokai bread, However, the store was closed.... We went to Coffee of Hawaii, instead and had breakfast and Molokai coffee. A lot of elderly people were there playing or listening to Hawaiian music. I started daydreaming about my retirement, but suddenly I was back to my reality and told my self that I need to work hard now for my relaxing retirement...hahahaha

We wanted to explore the east side of Molokai on the next day, we drove all the way. The road got so narrow, and even one car could fit. Also, the road was winding, it was so hard to see oncoming cars even hardly ever see them.

I see some posters which say things to make others go back to their home even they welcome to stay and spend some time here. That got me to think what I as the person who comes from outside of Hawaii can do. I also understand that some people don't always like to have tourists. However, if that happens many people lose their job and struggle to make a living here. I think money that was spent in Hawai'i or people who was so attracted to these islands can make some difference to protect these islands.

I was gonna say there was nothing in Molokai, but now I say Molokai offers time that goes really slow, quietness, and healing power to soften my body and mind.
