ハワイに来るまで

いまだに自分がハワイ州で看護師免許を取得したことが信じられません。

大学時代にロンドンに短期留学。今まで得意だと思っていた英語が全く通じず、挫折を味わい帰国しました。

 

 

その後漠然と”英語を使って仕事をする”という夢が生まれ、看護師として病院で勤務しながら貯蓄をし英会話教室に週１回通っていました。その当時はまさか自分がアメリカで看護師免許を取得するなどひとかけらも思わず、大学院で海外にでもまた行けたらいいなあなんて考えていました。

 

 

そんな中、様々な出会いを通じ、同じ大学出身の先輩がアメリカで看護師とし活躍していることを知り、連絡先を伺いました。自分も苦労したからと免許取得に必要な情報を送ってくれ、せっかく留学するなら何か形を残そうと免許取得に乗り出しました。

最初の苦労は両親との対立でした。”そんな夢のようなこと言ってないで始めたばかりの仕事を勤めなさい。”勤務していた病院からも”人数が足りない中でみんな頑張っているんだから無責任なことをしないで下さい。”と言われました。もちろん背中ををしてくれた友人も沢山いました。いろんな人からいろんなことを言われどうしたらいいのか分からなくなってしまうこともありました。自分でも本当にできるの？と疑う気持ちもありました。それでもそういったチャンスはみんなに与えられるわけじゃない、出来るか出来ないかなんてやってみないとわかんない。

 

 

それから約３年。

家族もだんだんと応援してくれるようになり、英語も上達し、上手くいかないかもしれないと時折襲われた不安にも打ち勝ち、ようやく免許を手にすることが出来ました。

人生一度きりですから、楽しんでやってみたいことやらないと！

 

I still can't believe that I passed the nursing exam in the US.

I went to study English in London when I was a college student.

At the time I thought I was good at English but I realized that I wasn't. I remember feeling a huge loss when I came back to Japan from London.

 

 

After that, I started dreaming about working in a foreign country. I didn't know what exactly I wanted to do. However, I saved up some money and found a good English teacher and studied English while I worked in the hospital as an oncology nurse.

 

Through encounters with many people, I got to know that one of the senior from the same college became a nurse in the US.

I contacted her and she helped me a lot. Then I decided I just don't want to study English but accomplish something.

I had a struggle with my parents. My family thought "Don't be that unrealistic. Just do what you do now,"

Even I couldn't imagine myself being a nurse in the US. But not everybody can get this opportunity or a gut to try and we never know until we try!

Fortunately, my family is getting supportive now. Sometimes I needed to overcome the feeling of being unsuccessful. But I finally did it.

 

Life is too short not to do something.
